QCDO FINANCIAL LITERACY PROGRAM EXPANDS High School students in Quitman County have reaped the benefits of the Quitman County Development Organization’s financial literacy program for the past year. Now, middle school students will have the same opportunity during the after school program with a Place-Based Education Grant from the Community Foundation of Northwest Mississippi. The $10,000 grant will be used to develop a financial literacy curriculum specifically for the target age group. The project is designed to produce young people who are well informed in the matters of finance and to help them develop into viable citizens with a healthy financial future. The program will also address the needs of students who are facing the increasing difficulty of the MCT II test. Middle school students will learn through hands on and real world application, the basis of place-based education. “Morgan Freeman Started this fund for Place-Based Education to connect students with real life in their communities, Tom Pittman, CEO, Community Foundation of Northwest Mississippi. “We can find no better purpose than to help students learn financial literacy and business skills”. “Place-Based Education prepares our students for the future”, said Pearl Watts, Quitman County Development Organization.
