It’s “The Year of the TEN Man” as the Crystal Ball celebrated its tenth annual gala on January 16, 2010. The “Wizard of Oz”-themed event brought party-goers into the Emerald City (the Arena at Southaven) with Munchkins and even a Flying Monkey.  Over 750 people attended.

The focus was on the Tin Man who needed a heart. The generosity of Crystal Ball patrons gave him the heart needed for the Community Foundation to continue improving the quality of life for all in Northwest Mississippi. The Crystal Ball is the foundation’s only fundraiser and helps it assist more than 200 nonprofits in its eight-county region.

At the gala, it was announced that the Maddox Foundation was making a $1.1 million contribution to match all Endowment gifts to the Community Foundation in 2009. The Endowment for the Future of Northwest Mississippi was announced, and a  live “auction” brought commitments of $150,600. They  will be multiplied by 6 with matching grants from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation and the Maddox Foundation—creating a total of $903,600 for the Endowment.

The black-tie gala boasted an elegant buffet dinner prepared by River City Management, which operates Mesquite Chophouse, Papa Pia’s, Natural Born Grillers and five other restaurants in Memphis.  The Parade of Characters (Dorothy, the Cowardly Lion, the Scarecrow, and the Tin Man) ushered in the evening’s line-up.  Queen Zeno and her Band plus The Fabulous Steelers furnished music for listening and dancing. Silent and live auctions added to the fun.

Community Star Men and Women of the previous nine years were the special honorees at the 10th annual Crystal Ball. The 2009 Community Stars took stage and received their honors.  If you want to learn more about the Annual Crystal Ball contact 662.449.5002 or communityfoundation@cfnm.org.
