PRESS RELEASE: 1/9/09 CONTACT: Tom Pitman 449.5002 Mackey Moore 349.5517
NEW FUND TO ASSIST A VARIETY OF CHARITABLE CAUSES The newly established First Tennessee Foundation Donor Advised Fund will assist causes that matter in northwest Mississippi. It is the second business-related fund with the Community Foundation of Northwest Mississippi. "Our goal is to be a great corporate citizen," said Mackey Moore, North Mississippi Region President of First Tennessee Bank. "We want to contribute from all our resources - cash, products and the volunteer efforts of our employees - to positively impact critical social needs in North Mississippi. I believe that by nurturing the vision of an organization like Community Foundation of Northwest Mississippi, local funding distribution can be more efficiently managed and lead to better communities. Given our limited resources and the multitude of worthy local endeavors, Community Foundation can help place charitable giving in areas so designated by the bank's foundation. We have chosen several worthy causes this year including those most closely associated with health, education and children's causes." (Moore). The Community Foundation through the First Tennessee Foundation Donor Advised Fund made its first grants on January 9th to the University of Mississippi Foundation 2+2 Scholarship initiative ($3,000), Junior Auxiliary of DeSoto County ($3,000), DeSoto Health & Wellness Center ($3,000), Baddour Center ($3,000) and the Community Foundation ($3,000) for a total of $15,000 in grants. “We appreciate this opportunity to connect a company that cares with causes that matter to the quality of life in our region,” said Community Foundation President Tom Pittman. “The foundation exists to make charitable giving easy and effective.”
