Hernando Parks Department was recognized as the Health Champion for December by the DeSoto County Community Health Council.  The Council was established in 2006 as part of the Community Foundation of Northwest Mississippi's GET A LIFE! initiative to promote healthy lifestyles working especially with childhood obesity. Hernando Parks Department was chosen as the first recipient for their work in providing avenues for healthier lifestyles and promoting group sports such as Ultimate Frisbee.  Hernando is also working to expand and improve every area of their parks and recreation offerings to its citizens.  Each month the Council will choose a Health Champion from nominations submitted to GET A LIFE!  Nominees can be individuals, schools, churches, organizations, businesses; anyone who is making a difference in nutrition and physical activity for the residents of DeSoto County.  To submit a nomination to the Community Health Council, fax or email a short nomination including, name of nominee, contact information, and a paragraph on why the nominee is deserving of a Health Champion recognition.  Fax to 662.449.5006 or mail to 321 Losher Street, Hernando, MS  38632.
