YMCA SUMMER ENRICHMENT PROGRAM FUNDED

“Put Your Head in the Game”, the theme for the Olive Branch Family YMCA summer enrichment program, was appropriate for the check presentation made by the Community Foundation of Northwest Mississippi and Senator Merle Flowers Monday morning.  The $50,000 grant to support families that could not otherwise pay for this program, was presented to YMCA Director Jim Robinson.  The funds are part of the Mississippi State Department of Human Services, Office of Social Services Block Grant.

.  “Our local YMCA has a phenomenal program and I am proud to work with them in serving those who need assistance.  These are your tax dollars at work”, Senator Merle Flowers.  The Community Foundation applied for the funds that will serve approximately 75 to 100 youth working through the Ys core programs reaching ages 5 to 14 during a ten-week period.  “Applying for and receiving this grant is another way of connecting people who care with causes that matter”,  Tom Pittman, President of the Community Foundation.  The program will include: team and leisure centered exercise/recreation program; nutrition education and healthy snacks program; safety at home and in the community; swimming skills and safety components; character development; performing arts; and arts and crafts.

“This is the second year we have received this funding and we are grateful to Senator Flowers for his support and the work of the Community Foundation in making application”, Jim Robinson, Executive Director of the Olive Branch Family YMCA.  “The funds are in addition to the funds collected through the YMCA’s ‘We Build People’ Campaign”.  To learn more about the YMCA and its programs call  662.890.9622.  To learn more about the Community Foundation of Northwest Mississippi call 622.449.5002 or go to www.cfnm.org.
